If you were to travel through the northern New England of NSW (between the towns of Inverell and Glen Innes) you would pass the home of Eaglehawk Angus. The first Vivers settled here in 1832 and have had a rich history in breeding fine cattle. Ian and Sally Vivers and children, Harry, Maggie and Annie continue this tradition.

Producing premium angus starts from the soil up….

The 3200 acres is operated under very commercial conditions to mimic the circumstances of our client base. At Eaglehawk we calve down 400 registered cows per year. These calves are born in August and September, and from these approx 100 bulls per year are produced to market through our sale and privately. A similar amount of replacement heifers are kept annually and any surplus to our requirement are funnelled into the “Eaglehawk Farms Premium Angus Beef” brand.

In addition to the registered herd we also run a commercial cow herd to test genetics that feed into the beef product. The property also has a 1000 head registered feedlot that is used to finish clients cattle destined for the brand.

Farming sustainably for another 7 generations….

We utilise the manure from our feedlot to make compost to naturally feed our soils. We farm approx 800 ac from which we produce corn silage, hay and grains for use in the feedlot and winter feeding, if necessary. We try to be the best custodians of our land and adapt to new sustainable methods of farming while breeding the very best Angus cattle that we can.

This is just a small snapshot of what we are about. Questions are welcome and we hope that you find our website informative and interesting.

The Eaglehawk Angus cow herd is the lifeblood of our breeding operation.

Our breeding philosophy here at Eaglehawk is deeply rooted in a strict discipline based on real world facts and results, not quickly changing breed fads and trends. Strong emphasis is placed on the traits of growth and carcase, structure, temperament and fertility, which also heavily impacts the profitability of our customers. Over the years certain traits have always come to the forefront of our cow selection criteria. Rigorous demands have been placed on fertility, easy fleshing and calving along with structure and phenotype and the ability to wean a heavy calf under commercial conditions. We expect our heifers to calve at 2 years of age and wean a heavy calf. No exceptions are made for empties. We also like a nice smooth hair type displayed in our cows.

Objective measurements are a very significant tool in our program. Ultrasound measurements help us in our selection of cattle that will produce high yielding carcases with adequate marbling. Our cattle are weighed at birth, weaning, 400 and 600 days of age.

The Vivers family have bred commercial cattle for 7 generations, so Ian is very aware of the requirements Eaglehawk Clients have of our bulls.

Our cows work for a living and our bulls are built to last. We develop our bulls slowly and cull them stringently. We market approximately 100 bulls annually.

We feel we have gone the extra mile to breed the right cattle and to accommodate our customers. We stand behind our cattle 100% and want to do business with our customers year after year after year.

We welcome any questions you may have regarding our program.
